THE BIMASENA J-FIS TEAM WON THE 2ND CHAMPION IN THE NATIONAL BRIDGE COMPETITION AND MADE UNY PROUD

The National Bridge Competition is a part of a series of Civil Engineering Innovation Contest held by the Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Diponegoro University as a form of effort to facilitate the competency development of Civil Engineering students in bridge planning. This year the competition has the theme of Bridge Planning "Efficient, Economical, Without Leaving Beauty Out of the Context of Better National Development" and ran online. Seeing this opportunity, a team was formed called BIMASENA J-FIS.

BIMASENA J-FIS consists of 3 members, namely Nurul Aisyiyah Kartika Rini, Feby Adhitya Kristanto, and Noor Chaukab with supervisor lecturer Maris Setyo Nugroho, M.Eng starting to prepare for making a work proposal from November and submitted it on 31st of December 2020.

In the preliminary stage, all 23 teams from all over Indonesia were asked to design a steel frame bridge with a span of 80 meters with the conditions stated in the TOR and to make a video of the finished bridge model. After the preliminary stage was completed, the 7 best teams were selected. The thing that was able to lead the team to the final round was by bringing excellence in terms of efficiency, economy, and beauty, the bridge was named "Shorea Bridge".

In addition, the Shorea Bridge is equipped with an innovative Vertical Axis Wind Turbine. The technology works on the principle of utilizing wind energy around the bridge and energy generated by passing vehicles. The wind energy is converted into electrical energy that can be used for lighting bridges and other needs.

The final round was held on 1st-3rd of March 2021. In this round the teams that pass was asked to present the results of their planning and the results of working on case studies. The team that passed entered the case study stage where in the case study the team was asked to design reinforcement for a steel box girder bridge that failed the static test and found that the bridge. The challenge in this case study was that the team was not allowed to do welding and drilling on existing steel structures.

In the final assessment stage, the BIMASENA J-FIS Team managed to get second place out of 7 finalist teams from the Bandung Institute of Technology (1), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (1), Universitas Negeri Malang (1), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (1), Politeknik Pekerjaan Umum (1), Politeknik Negeri Bandung (1), and Muhammadiyah University of Malang (1).
